Social media can be more far-reaching than traditional media. With millions of people logging on to the Internet everyday, many of them members of different types of social media, a company can easily use social media to shape the perception of the public toward it and its products.

There is plenty of social media that appeals to different types of people. Companies can easily take advantage of this to reach the public. This is because many of the popular social media sites offer free services. The biggest investment a company has to make when using free social media sites is time.

Influencing people’s perception of your company and products entails transmitting consistent positive messages about the company. Social media can serve as channels to deliver these positive messages to the public. However, the company needs to invest time to create meaningful content and post the messages on its social media accounts.

Companies can take advantage of social media for public relations not just because they can be used to reach millions of people, social media also allow companies to go in and micro-manage their public relations. A company can choose to reply to all the negative criticisms that people post online. Because messages can quickly spread over social media, negative posts can spread very quickly. A company can easily take control of the situation and stop the negative information from spreading. Using social media, a company can stop a small issue from becoming a PR nightmare.

By NOAM COHEN

ADBLOCK PLUS became the most popular piece of “add-on” software for the Firefox Web browser, in part, because it had a simple mission: see online ad, block online ad. The name said it all — and each day 10 million people or so surf the Internet with Adblock Plus installed, presumably never missing the advertising they were meant to see.

Enlarge This Image

YouTube

Adblock Plus, the popular add-on for Web browsers, has tweaked its filters to allow some ads through.

In December, however, Adblock Plus introduced a new concept, the “acceptable ad” — that is, an ad so inoffensive that it shouldn’t necessarily be blocked by the software. And nothing has been quite so simple since.

Under a new default setting for all users of Adblock Plus, these online ads will appear. (A user can still opt out with a couple of clicks and block all ads as before.)

For purists among the community of users and programmers who support the open-source project, “acceptable ad” has the ring of doublespeak, as in, “all ads are equal, but some ads are more equal than others.”

The full CMMI model contains 22 Process Areas, each containing a series of practices designed to accomplish one or more goals. As a general rule, each Process Area can be implemented on its own, independent of the others. Yet as you become familiar with the model, you’ll find that many of the Process Areas in CMMI are related to each other, add strength to each other, and build upon each other.

You might find it helpful or handy to inter relate Process Areas by grouping them into functional categories. Using or even recognizing this grouping is not mandatory for model success, but you might find it’s a useful way of organizing things in your head. The grouping is sorted like this: in the model, six Process Areas (PAs) deal with project management, six deal with engineering, five others deal with the support functions of project execution, and five deal with process management within the organization.

Here’s how the PAs are organized by functional category.

Project Management:
• Project Planning
• Project Monitoring and Control
• Integrated Project Management
• Quantitative Project Management
• Risk Management
• Supplier Agreement Management

Engineering:
• Requirements Management
• Requirements Development
• Verification
• Validation
• Technical Solution
• Product Integration

Support:
• Process and Product Quality Assurance
• Configuration Management
• Measurement and Analysis
• Decision Analysis and Resolution
• Causal Analysis and Resolution

Process Management:
• Organizational Process Focus
• Organizational Process Definition
• Organizational Training
• Organizational Process Performance
• Organizational Innovation and Deployment

Each PA is supported by one or more specific goals, which can be reached using the recommended specific practices. To support the implementation of each PA, CMMI also uses generic goals. The generic goals help institutionalize the activities of a Process Area into a project. There are five generic goals, each with its own generic practices.

That’s a lot of best-practice data. And if you were to look at the CMMI components as a single model, the way that ISO 9001 and Six Sigma are, you might reach the conclusion that there’s more than enough there, maybe too much. But CMMI was designed with scalability in mind. In fact, you can implement CMMI within your organization one of three ways. In each way, you select only certain portions of the model to use: portions that best suit your own process improvement needs, portions that address your chief management concerns, portions that get you to your process goals. One way is called the Continuous Representation. Another is called the Staged Representation. The third way in my term is called the “any way you want” way.

Web development services in India have changed the face of the internet in a remarkable way. With more and more companies marketing their products online and customers relying heavily on the internet, web development has picked up radically. Most of us now enjoy the facility of buying commodities or goods online from the very comforts of our own homes instead of visiting stores, malls and shops and searching in person for what we need. This not only helps saves time but also saves the hassles and the efforts that one has to put up with in order to reach nearby stores or malls.

Web development initially was thought to be limited to the designing aspect of creating an appealing website. However, nowadays web development is much more than that. It would include many others modules like e-commerce, online videos, advertisement campaigns, creating online inventories, online stores, tutorials and much more. The scope of web development can range from developing simple static web pages of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services.

Large setups and organizations would usually have a huge portal running on the internet marketing their products and services hence they would hire a web development team comprising of many web developers to maintain their website for them. On the contrary, smaller setups would usually hire a webmaster or a small team of graphic designers to help maintain their site for them. Web development may only be a successful proposition if all departments in one organization present a collaborative effort towards it.

Web development has become a very easy job as compared to the past. There are many software tools available like for example Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Microsoft Expression Studio which can help you in developing a classy website in no time at all. These tools are so user friendly that extensive knowledge of HTML or any other programming is not all required. You can effortlessly place pictures, graphics and create web pages beyond your wildest dreams.

Many small to large companies have engaged web development companies to create for them backend tools like Content Management Systems through which their webmaster can update their website for them. Again, no expert knowledge is required in running these CMS packages and they can update your website in no time at all. Open source CMS codes like Drupal, Joomla and Xoops are freely available. They just need to custom programmed to meet the individual requirements of a company.

Costs involved in web development are not as what it used to be a couple of years back. In fact there are many sites available on the internet which can help you build a site based on your basic requirement at very low rates. However, if you own a company and are looking for slightly complex web applications to be created for your site then it is always best to hire a web development company. Web Development in India is on the rise and there are many experienced and professional companies providing efficient services. One needs to be cautious while choosing the right Web Development partner and should look into various aspects such as the solution offered, the costs, the communication level of the company and ufcourse the standard of quality that the company offers. IT Chimes is one of the leading Web Development companies in India and with a portfolio of more than 100 clients worldwide and 300 successful projects already delivered they have the confidence to take on complex project and offer efficient and result oriented solutions.
