Social Media For The Enterprise: A CEO’s Best Friend

Eric Savitz, Forbes Staff

CEO’s, like everyone else, get frustrated, and when they do, you can sometimes catch them talking to themselves. For example, when confronted with an unnecessarily stubborn corporate problem, more than one CEO has been heard to mumble, “Darn, I’m positive someone in our company knows the answer to this.”

I’ve heard myself saying that now and then during my CEO career. But lately, rather than just complain to my executive staff, I’ve been able to do something about it and actually find the people with the answers.

The tool I’ve used is a new kind of software: Enterprise social software. As head of an enterprise social software company, I may be a little biased, but every day, I see for myself the way these programs are changing way that CEOs lead, and with it, the way their companies operate.

Enterprise social software is usually described as “Facebook for the workplace.” But the description doesn’t quite convey how these programs,  have as the end result not socializing, but getting work done.
